Project Lernort Nordend

The language development and integration project ‘Lernort Nordend’ assists immigrants and refugees located in the northernmost part of the city of Langen in learning German and developing social contacts.

The project is intended to help the affected families to quickly establish themselves and to become better accustomed to everyday life. Starting with a weekly playgroup for children at preschool age, through to German lessons and homework supervision in the afternoons, and group cooking events – thanks to the various offers available, the children and parents have the possibility to develop and solidify the necessary linguistic skills.

At the same time, they also learn more about healthy living and nutrition. The objective of ‘Lernort Nordend’ is to overcome linguistic barriers and, in doing so, to help the children to be able to follow lessons so that they can master their schooling and transition into professional life later on.

The project is supported and implemented by several cooperative partners in the city of Langen: in addition to the financial support through the Hahn Air Foundation, the Youth Immigration Service (Jugendmigrationsdienst [JMD]) of the Internationaler Bund (IB), the ‘Haltestelle’ senior centre, the Evangelical Parish of St. Peter (die Evangelische Petrusgemeinde), the Youth Centre, the Adult Education Centre (Volkshochschule [VHS]) and the Langen Music School are also project partners.
