Amigos de San Cristobal (MX)
A.C. is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation which supports projects aimed at the sustainable improvement of living conditions and the education of disadvantaged groups within society in the state of Chiapas, the southernmost region of Mexico.
The organisation has its headquarters in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, and depends on the active support of volunteer helpers from Mexico and other countries.
The state of Chiapas is home to Mexico’s second largest indigenous population, which frequently lacks the most essential humanitarian necessities. In rural areas, there is a lack of running water and sanitary infrastructure. Women and children have it particularly hard with difficult living conditions, often enduring harm to their health. But even in the towns and cities, people lack sufficient nourishment, clothing and a roof over their heads. Many children are unable to enjoy a school education, as they are forced to work to ensure the survival of the family.
As a way of improving these terrible conditions, Amigos de San Cristóbal, A.C. collects money through local events such as concerts or flea markets, as well as through private donations which are then used to support disadvantaged groups in society in the state of Chiapas. The project groups which receive the donations are re-assessed on an annual basis, in order to ensure that the defined objectives are achieved.
