Siliguri – Himalaya School (IN)

The Himalayan International Residential School is a public, mixed boarding school which is located outside the municipality of Siliguri in Northern Bengal (India). Since 1997, it has provided students with all-day lessons at the foot of the Himalayan mountains which, in addition to school lessons, also offers numerous sports and extra-curricular activities.

Creativity, decisiveness and social cohesion are considered just as important as critical thinking, independent work and teamwork at the HIRS. As a non-denominational boarding school, it encourages children to respect every religion and the civic rights of every individual, and to develop an awareness of the environment and endangered regions. For these reasons, one of the boarding school’s projects strives to uphold the so-called Bon Tradition, in addition to Buddhism, as a cultural heritage. For the pupils at the Himalayan International Residential School in Siliguri, there is a focus on strengthening the awareness of cultural identity in the region under the guidance of Ven Khenpo Tenpo Yungrung, in addition to the process of learning.
