Your Forest
More than just a tree…
Restoration, community, and a living future in Chiapas, Mexico
Your Forest is a Mexican non-profit civil association founded in 2021, dedicated to the regeneration and restoration of forest ecosystems in Chiapas, Mexico. With the slogan “More than just a tree…”, the project emphasizes that reforestation is not limited to planting trees. It is a broader commitment to restoring land, protecting biodiversity, strengthening local communities, and creating a sustainable future.
The project works directly with rural and Indigenous communities to generate real environmental impact while supporting sustainable regional economies. By combining forest restoration, agroecological practices, community collaboration, and environmental awareness, Your Forest seeks to regenerate ecosystems and promote long-term resilience in the region.
A key part of Your Forest’s work is the establishment and management of forest nurseries. These nurseries produce forest and fruit tree seedlings that are adapted to the specific conditions of each region. They provide the foundation for community reforestation activities, help preserve biological diversity, and supply the plant material needed for agroforestry systems and regenerative land-use projects.
Your Forest applies a sustainable and agroecological approach to forest rehabilitation. The project promotes the integrated management of natural resources and uses sustainable alternatives that imitate natural processes. Through this approach, it contributes to soil restoration, improved ecosystem health, increased productivity, and the development of resilient landscapes.
Community collaboration is one of the project’s fundamental pillars. Your Forest recognizes that the participation of the people who live in the territory is essential for successful revegetation and ecosystem restoration. By working closely with local rural and Indigenous communities, the project values local knowledge, strengthens community ownership, and ensures that restoration activities are adapted to the social and environmental reality of the region.
The project also promotes the importance of diversity. Your Forest values biological diversity, as well as the diversity of resources, knowledge, and strategies needed to maintain healthy ecosystems. This perspective allows the project to respond to local challenges in a holistic and inclusive way.
In addition to its ecological work, Your Forest seeks to strengthen responsibility and social awareness around the rational and sustainable use of forests. The project aims to connect urban populations with the natural environment and raise awareness of the importance of ecosystem services such as clean air, water regulation, soil protection, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
Transparency and gratitude are central to the project’s identity. Your Forest values the support of its partners, donors, field team, and community collaborators. It recognizes that sustainability can only be achieved through collective effort and long-term commitment.
Ultimately, Your Forest is more than a reforestation initiative. It is a project focused on restoring land, regenerating ecosystems, increasing productivity, strengthening communities, and building resilience. Guided by the belief that every tree is part of a larger living system, Your Forest works toward a future in which people and forests can thrive together.
